The Farm
During your stay at the Cottage, you may want to take a short walk across the field to our Farm and try your hand at:
- Milking a cow
- Collecting eggs
- Feeding beef cattle
- Making cheese, ice-cream and butter
- Baking your own bread from fresh-ground wheat
We have the following animals on our farm:
Cows, sheep, goats, rabbits, ducks, geese, chickens, turkeys, kittens, dogs, a paint horse, a pony and a Belgian horse.
Each animal has a special function; the pigs use their snouts to
forage and dig up roots, and in this way they help clear acreage on the farm. Chickens use their natural scratching habits and eat the harmful
insects that damage what we grow. Goats are great for "cleaning up" brush areas and eating pesky weeds, and the sheep help to groom the
pasture after the beef and dairy cows have gone through. Our mixed farming practices set up an interesting situation where each part of the
farm is of benefit in some way to the other parts. Our practices and philosophy converge to create a healthy, vibrant environment in which people,
animals and plants can live and thrive, side by side.
Here are the foods that we currently grow/ produce:
- Meat: Grass-fed beef, eggs, turkey, pastured poultry, duck, pork, rabbit, lamb
- Dairy Products: cheese
- Vegetables: fresh garden produce - zucchini, squash, yellow and green wax beans,
- Fruits: black currants, raspberries, rhubarb and strawberries
- Other: eggs, jellies
