The Cottage

Our Getaway Cottage is actually a large, split-level house which can sleep approximately fifteen people - here is some general information: The upstairs level is comprised of two bedrooms and three bathrooms, a living room and a fully-equipped kitchen. There is a TV and a DVD player in the living room, and each bedroom in the Cottage has its own ceiling fan for your comfort on warm nights. In the basement you will find an additional bedroom, a housekeeping room and a family room, which provides extra sleeping space. There is a phone at the Cottage and a laundry area which includes a washer, dryer and clothesline. If your stay includes a visit to the beach, we will be happy to provide you with towels and a beach blanket to use. All that you may need to care for babies and toddlers will also be available: play pen, stroller, crib, high chair, etc. - just please let us know your needs when you book your stay.

The Rest of the House:

On the upstairs level you will find a separate full bathroom which includes a soaker tub, to help ease your cares away. The kitchen is bright and sunny and overlooks our fields at the back of the property. It is outfitted with all the comforts of home: a range, fridge, dishwasher, microwave oven, dishes, cutlery, glassware, pots, etc. Still on the same level, the living room is equipped with an authentic wood cookstove, comfy couch and loveseat, rocking chair and antique armoire.

In the lower level of the house, in addition to the Teddy Bear room, you will find a family room loaded with books and reading material, and a comfortable couches which double as sleeping spaces for extra guests. In all, the Getaway Cottage can sleep people. Board games of various kinds will be available, and outside games that you will be free to enjoy include badminton, volleyball, etc.

Should you wish to explore the Island, there are ample opportunities for enjoying local natural attractions. Visit the Trailside Cafe in nearby Mount Stewart and rent a bicycle - see how much of the Confederation Trail you can cover in a day! (see our "Local Attractions" page for more details) A canoe is available should you desire to explore the Pisquid River (best for beginners), or the Hillsborough River (for more experienced 'water travellers'). Feel free to come visit us on the farm, just across the field, and take part in many of our daily activities.....if spending time with the animals is something you or your children would like to do, you have your pick - we have cows, sheep, goats, rabbits, ducks, geese, chickens, turkeys, kittens, dogs, a paint horse, a pony and a Belgian horse. We'd be glad to give you a tour and help you get a feel for what a working farm is all about. Take the time to enjoy simple pleasures.....bake yourself some fresh bread, churn your own butter, make some ice cream and bring some back to the Cottage to share with family and friends!
